Tomorrow night is New Year’s Eve. If your party plans involve alcohol, you’d better not get behind the wheel.

The number of alcohol related crashes and drunk driving arrests spike around the holidays, particularly around New Year’s Eve. AAA’s Matt Nasworthy says that more people are out celebrating away from home with alcohol this time of year. “We surveyed folks and found that almost 2 out of 3 are going to be attending some sort of holiday party during┬áthis period of time, so that means that the likelihood having impaired drivers on the road is that much more,” he added.

Law enforcement agencies throughout the area are also stepping up patrols this weekend in an effort to find and arrest drunk drivers. If you’re in Blair County, you can get a free cab ride home from bars and restaurants tomorrow night by calling 947-6805, between the hours of 10PM and 3AM.

This is the 20th year of the “Take a Cab, We’ll Pay The Tab” Campaign, sponsored by Pyramid Healthcare and Blair Drug & Alcohol Partnership to help prevent and discourage impaired drivers from getting behind the wheel on New Year’s Eve.
