Pennsylvania State Police announced the results today of their “Operation: Safe Holiday” driving enforcement from Thanksgiving weekend.
State troopers investigated 931 different car accidents, starting from Nov. 23 to Nov. 27. Those numbers are down 8 percent from 1,013 crashes during the same five-day period last year. Of those 931 crashes, the report said 61 were alcohol-related incidents, with 271 people injured and six people killed. Two of the six, or one third of the fatal crashes, involved alcohol impairment.
Troopers also made 610 arrests on suspicion of driving under the influence, which is up from 2015, when there were 558 DUI arrests during the five-day holiday period.
