John Adams
Colossus of Independence

In David McCullough's terrific biography, John Adams, he has a chapter entitled "Colossus of Independence" which details John Adams' role in the decision of the Continental Congress to break with England. This story nicely tells the way character shapes destiny and inspires Open Mic in its effort to promote Virtue, Liberty, and Independence. To that end, Open Mic announces each year on the anniverary of the momentous date, July 2, 1776, winners of its John Adams Colossus of Independence Awards, sometimes called "The Jackies". There are four awards each year in the following categories: 1) Memorial; 2) Citizenship; 3) Audience Contribution; 4) Public Service.
