(MUMBAI, India) — An Indian man reportedly killed over a dozen members of his family this weekend before killing himself, police said.
According to BBC, the 35-year-old Hasnin Warekar murdered 14 family members, including seven children and his parents, by lacing their food with sedatives and then slitting their throats.
Police said a motive for the attack is still unclear.
“He used a big knife. He killed his parents, his sisters and his sisters’ children. He slit their throats,” Thane police spokesman Gajanan Laxman said according to Agence France-Presse.
Ashutosh Dumbre, Thane’s police commissioner, said according to BBC that the accused “bolted all the doors of the house and murdered his family while they were asleep.”
Reports suggest Warekar was an accountant in Mumbai.
