The holiday season is a festive time and often means homes are decorated and family and friends drop by, so state officials are here to help you keep the season happy and safe by avoiding potentially dangerous and costly situations.

State Fire Commissioner Tim Solobay urges families to replace the batteries in their smoke alarms during the holiday season, as well as every time the time “falls back” or “springs forward” from Daylight’s Savings Time.

State Insurance Commissioner Teresa Miller would like to remind homeowners that they should be aware that if friends and family come over to celebrate the holidays and have too much to drink, they may be liable for allowing them to drive home, should there be an accident.
