(ROME) — An Italian appeals court upheld Costa Concordia Capt. Francesco Schettino’s conviction on Tuesday for his role in the cruise ship’s 2012 capsizing, which killed 32 people.
Francesco Schettino has not yet begun his 16-year prison sentence, and he still has one more chance to appeal to Italy’s highest court.
The former captain was sentenced last year and his 16-year prison sentence includes 10 years for manslaughter, five years for causing a maritime accident, and one year for abandoning ship.
The Costa Concordia capsized in 2012 after hitting an underwater rock off the Tuscan island of Giglio.
