The Blair County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports of residents receiving calls from a male caller identifying himself as a Deputy of the Blair County Sheriff’s Office. The caller claims that a “jury duty or witness” appearance has been missed, resulting in an arrest warrant. The caller then provides instructions on how to handle the warrant, by paying a dollar amount that could resolve the outstanding warrant. Authorities note the caller is using a smart phone application that disguises the number as having come from the sheriff’s office. The Blair County Sheriff’s Office warns everyone that the calls are a scam and their agency never calls and presents an option to settle outstanding warrants. Authorities are warning to NEVER give your personal or account information to anyone over the phone.
