High School Students Debate Bills at William Penn Program

Some local high school students got a first-hand look at how state government operates on Thursday.

Nearly 130 juniors from 21 schools across the 30th Senatorial District gathered at Penn State Altoona for the 2nd Annual William Penn Leadership Conference. The event was hosted by State Senator John Eichelberger, who says the students got to debate three real-world bills currently sitting before the legislature.

Central High School student Leah Stiles says it’s now easy for her to see why lawmakers have a touch time passing legislation.

The students got to see how technology now plays a role in crafting legislation. And the learned the importance of being involved in state government. Cambria County State Representative Gary Haluska also addressed the student
