PennDOT met with several Altoona residents Monday night to discuss the city’s future transportation needs.
During a public hearing at the Altoona Railroader’s Memorial Museum, PennDOT officials displayed projections of how the city’s corridors are projected to grow. PennDOT says the daily traffic load on 17th Street has topped 30-thousand cars per day. And on the Route 764 arteries past the Altoona Area High School, traffic tops 22,000 vehicles per days.
While PennDOT has no immediate plans to make changes to the roadways, project manager Brad Brumbaugh says the Needs Assessment Survey is necessary to help in the future planning process.
Brumbaugh says officials will be able to use the data to then best-address the trouble areas before they head to the drawing board and find ways to fix them. PennDOT is already seeking Federal funding in anticipation of any projects that may be proposed to improve the roadways.
