Commissioners: ‘We Want to See More Money on the Sheriff’s Books’

The Blair County Commissioners are again addressing overtime and staffing issues in the county’s Sheriff’s Office.

During a Monday morning meeting of the Blair County Salary Board, officials tabled a staff promotion until more revenue is accounted for. The board members also approved nearly $3,600 in overtime from April.

That didn’t sit well with Commissioner Terry Tomassetti, who says the county can’t pay for something it can’t afford.

Tomassetti says he sees the need for additional staffing in some areas, especially the sheriff’s office. But he says he’s not willing to entertain any additional costs until there is more money on the books.

Sheriff Larry Field attributed the lack of cash flow to the loss of a key person who was able to do the job faster and get the revenue deposited.
