Heartless?
By Chaz Smith - Altoona, PA

Who is Representative Geist to call a young man heartless for questioning the proposal that only seniors receive property tax relief from casino revenues?
My first thought was that Mr. Geist is a politician. I expect him to lie. I expect him to cheat. But as my elected representative, I don't expect him to insult his constituents. When he called this man heartless, he was effectively calling everyone heartless who would
question his proposal as this man did. Mr. Geist, you called me heartless.
After thinking about it for a while, though, I've come to see that there may be hidden wisdom in Mr Geist's comment. For why was he was calling this man heartless? Was this man advocating taking anything or denying anything from someone? No. This man was simply suggesting that we
follow a plan laid out by the Governor and our Representatives, that being, that casino revenue be equally distributed in the form of property tax relief to all.
Mr Geist, I think you're onto something. You recognize that our elected officials can institute plans that are heartless. Now why don't you take a look at all the other plans laid out by you and the Pennsylvania government which actually do deprive the citizens of freedom and fortune. Have the guts to stand up and call these laws heartless, and
eliminate a few of them. For that, you would receive my respect.
